Calling all farm direct producers… you are invited to participate…

Registration is open for farms wanting to share their agriculture story with consumers during the 7th annual Alberta Open Farm Days (OFD).

This year’s event will run province wide the weekend of August 17  and 18, 2019.  Last year’s event continued to break records with 117 farms, over 23,500 farm visits, and almost $190,000 in on-farm sales.  Farms can register online at https://albertafarmdays.ca/host-registration/ .  They can choose which day (or both days!) they wish to open their gates, and are provided event insurance at no cost to them when registered to take part.

The public truly values this unique experience – last year 99% of consumers rated their 2018 OFD experience as good, very good, or excellent (79% said excellent), and  95% agreed or strongly agreed that the event improved their understanding and perception of agriculture.  These sentiments were echoed by Richard Ozero, co-owner of Good Morning Honey, who was recently interviewed on Call of the Land and shared some highlights from their experience in 2018 as first time participants, as well as some tips and benefits when bringing the public directly out to the farm (part one experience, and part two tips and benefits).

Some additional resources are attached including a host information sheet, culinary event activation letter, as well as a new March 27 workshop opportunity for farms wanting to maximize the value of their OFD event (being hosted at PaSu Farm near Carstairs; a second workshop is planned closer to the Edmonton region in April, however details are still being finalized at this time).  Farms may also contact  openfarmdays@gov.ab.ca or 780-638-4302 with further questions about getting involved with this amazing event!
