Organic Standards

Organic Production System Standards - The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has sponsored the Canadian General Standards Board (CGSB) Committee on Organic Agriculture to develop the Organic Production Systems standards.

The Organic Production Systems standards were revised in Fall of 2015. Check out the updated versions here:

CAN/CGSB-32.310-2015 - General Principles and Management Standards
CAN/CGSB-32.311-2015 - Permitted Substances List

Certified operators have a full year to come into compliance with the new standards.

If at first you don't succeed, try, try again - Interpreting the Organic Standards -The Canadian Organic Standards (COS) were voluntary until 2009. They became mandatory when the Organic Products Regulations (OPR) were implemented in June 2009. Many meetings of the CGSB Committee on Organic Agriculture (TC) were held to revise the standards and make them fully applicable.
