Local Health Food Store Gives Boost to Calgary Homeless

CALGARY, ALBERTA – This week Community Natural Foods will present a cheque to The Mustard Seed Street Ministry for $12,985.05, a cumulative value from donations made at CNF stores by patrons to support The Mustard Seed’s Scan Away Homelessness Program. Through this program, donors contribute to the cost of a meal served at The Mustard Seed.

In addition, throughout this past year Community Natural Foods has contributed over $177,000.00 in groceries to The Mustard Seed through a program that has been in place since 2006, where Community Natural Foods delivers produce, dairy and groceries daily to The Mustard Seed.

"Community Natural Foods is a longtime partner of The Mustard Seed, and we are deeply appreciative of their ongoing support and involvement," says Myron Krause, Executive Director of The Mustard Seed Calgary. "Their generosity, and the generosity of their customers, is helping to break the cycle of poverty and homelessness by providing men and women in need with access to programs and services that support real and lasting life change."

For more than 25 years, The Mustard Seed has worked to foster meaningful, lifelong change in the lives of Calgary’s less fortunate. Together with organizations such as Community Natural Foods they care for the most essential and urgent needs of those in need with food, clothing and shelter. The Mustard Seed also provides the tools, training and community needed to help men and women rebuild broken lives and, ultimately, realize the dream of a better future.

“Community Natural Foods is proud to be partnering with such a worthwhile cause”, says Bruce Martin, General Manager of Community Natural Foods. “We are fortunate to be able to help the less fortunate get their lives back together. The Mustard Seed gets to the root of the issues to create lasting change. Their programs are life-changing and Community is looking forward to continuing to support The Mustard Seed in the years to come.”
