Take action, vaccine to prevent Coccidiosis in Chickens

Please see the National Farmers' Union initiative below and take action.

To Agriculture Caucus

Canadian chickens being fed non-organic feed are being fed prophylactic antibiotics in their feed to prevent coccidiosis (a deadly disease caused by an intestinal parasite). An excellent vaccine for coccidiosis is available in Canada and is not being made widely available to producers and is not being used INSTEAD of medicated feed.

Medicated feed contributes to the development of “super bugs” that negatively impacts the health of humans, animals and organisms that reside in nature.

Recently the drug Roxarsone was suspended from inclusion in feed because the arsenic content was a risk to human health.

Take action - Ask the Minister of Health to ban the use of these drugs, to make the vaccine widely available to chicken producers and launch an educational campaign to promote the use of the vaccine. The attached letter can be used as a guideline in writing a letter to the minister.
