Sunworks Farm (Armena, 15 minutes North of Camrose)

Sunworks Farm is a Certified Organic Poultry and Cattle farm that direct markets all of its meats at two year round Farmers Markets and into a few food service outlets. The farm is certified as humane and raises their poultry in movable shelters in the summer. Calving is done late spring and through the summer.  The feed is made on the farm in their own CFIA approved feed mill. This is a progressive farm that uses rotational grazing for its birds and cattle, farms holistically and in a sustainable manner.

First Nature Farms (Goodfare, Peace River Country 4 miles east of the BC border)

First nature farmsFirst Nature Farms (or "the Ranch") has been around since 1918. Certified organic since 1990, the operation produces bison, beef, pork, chickens, eggs, Merriam's wild turkeys and domestic turkeys. First Nature Farms is operated as an ecological reserve. It is home to many species including Trumpeter swans, mountain bluebirds, wolves and grizzly bears. The farm goal is to protect and enhance the biodiversity of the land. These farmers, experienced in animal husbandry, live on 3350 acres between Grande Prairie and Dawson Creek

Nature's Way Farm (Grimshaw, near the town of Peace River

Natures Way FarmOn our Holistic Managed, ecological, grass based we raise grass-fed cattle and sheep, and we grow alfalfa seed, alfalfa leafcutter beekeeping, and hay. We have a couple of milk cows, a dozen laying hens, and a vegetable garden for our own food supply. At Natures Way Farm we believe in building a healthy eco-system and working with nature to provide an environmentally, economically and socially acceptable form of food production. One of our goals is to share our knowledge with others and help the next generation of farmers.

Eggers Farm (LaGlace, 50 km northwest of Grande Prairie)

Eggers webFormally a conventional grain farm, we are now grass based and got our organic certificate in 2008. We use Holistic Management principles; we graze cattle, sheep and some chicken. We grow a little organic grain and a vegetable garden for our own food supply. On our farm we work with nature encouraging productivity through biodiversity, creating an environmentally, economically socially sound food production model. Our biggest interest lies in soil nutrition. We like to share our knowledge and are looking forward to the new things (view points) each person brings to us. We are bilingual (German and English).

Sand Springs Ranch (45 km NW of Lac La Biche)

Sand Springs Ranch smallSand Springs Ranch uses a blend of Certified Organic, Biodynamic, and Holistic farm practices in the management of 5000+ acres. We run a Certified Organic Market Garden, a Grass-fed Cow/ Calf Beef operation, and a Free-Range Chicken and Pork operation; all of which incorporate our own grain and vegetable seed production. We are currently implementing a CSA Farm Share Program and are involved in two(2) Food Hubs. We also attend the local Farmers Market. There are four(4) generations involved in various aspects of our farm, hence we are very family orientated. Education, in all forms, is a serious priority for us as we live a holistic lifestyle and we wish to share our knowledge and learn from others.

Apprentice position will be asked to be actively involved in all areas of production, harvest, and marketing; expecting long hours/days during peak season. Room and board is available, with an hourly wage.
