The BBC visited Canada to film a story on the GM pig and interviewed CBAN Coordinator Lucy Sharratt in Toronto at The Big Carrot Natural Food Market. The stories are unfortunately pretty fluffy and accept a lot of industry PR but videos are posted here.
The story is the beginning of international awareness and concern about Canada's role in supporting GE pigs and salmon.
The GM pig is not an environmental solution, is completely unnecessary, and is designed to support factory farming. For more information go here. Interestingly, in Europe animal feed for factory farms is mostly imported so Vicky Hird, of Friends of the Earth in the UK, added to the analysis of the problems that, "Pigs reared in these intensive units can never be sustainable because they require so much soya which is grown by clearing forests which leads to more greenhouse gases being released" She also said, "And when it comes to GM food, consumers are voting with their feet. They won't accept it." This comes from a Daily Mail story that repeats the false idea that the GM pig will reduce odour from factory farms. This is not true. To see why click here.

Canada could approve the GE pig for human consumption any day. You can send a letter to the Minister of Health instantly from: http://www.cban.ca/enviropigaction
