AAFC Policy on Low Level Presence of non authorized GMOs

AAFC Policy on Low Level Presence of non authorized GMOs: a Low Level Presence of real public debates on the GMO issues in Canada.

GMOs are not controllable: neither in the fields, neither in shipments. There are non authorized GMOs that could be accidentally introduced in import-export shipments and AAFC wants to facilitate the trade by implementing a tolerance policy for those accidental events.

Different scenarios are proposed by AAFC to manage imports contaminated by low level presence (LLP) of GMOs not authorized in Canada. The OFC participated to the AAFC consultation on that issue to file its objection to any LLP policy unless an overall policy is implemented to protect organic production against GMO contamination and unless costs incurred by contamination prevention, detection and loss of organic integrity are shared with the producers of GM crops.

A paper describing the base for OFC position is attached.
