News Release: Going Organic: Thinking Globally, Acting Locally

March 1st, 2010

In cooperation with Going Organic, Alberta Agriculture and Rural Development is organizing a conference in Leduc on March 17 and 18, 2010.

Highlighting the potential for Alberta producers and processors in international organic markets, the program features industry experts from Canada, the United States, Asia, and Europe. Topics include product demand and new product development, consumer drivers, regulatory environments, logistics, future export opportunities, and provincial and international value chain development. The conference will also feature seminars on non-traditional succession planning, scaling up Alberta’s organic beef and oat sectors, on-farm grain processing, and the potential for collaboration between producers along the value chain. Registration is $50, and includes the cost of attending all workshops, an evening wine and cheese on March 17, lunch on March 18, and morning and afternoon coffee breaks on both days. The program also provides participants with the opportunity to have one-on-one consultations with the program’s industry experts.
