News Release: Go Hits The Road

GO Hits the Road Winter Workshop Series

The Going Organic Network of Alberta (GO) is offering a series of workshops this fall and winter for producers interested in organic production.

Four two-day workshops will be held in four regions across the province between November 2009 and February 2010. In each region, there will be a full day of organic workshops addressing a variety of issues (including soil management, organic research, cropping to save fuel and finishing beef), and a speed dating component where participants can talk with experts on topics such as livestock, crop production and marketing. The second day of the workshops will be customized courses in each region to address local issues.

“Instead of offering a 2010 conference, GO is taking its workshops on the road to producers across the province who are already involved in, currently transitioning to, or generally interested in, organic production,” says GO’s Interim Executive Director, Becky Lipton.

In Leduc, Grande Prairie and Lethbridge, an organic beef sector development meeting will be featured.

In Leduc, market gardeners can look forward to Daniel Brisebois from Quebec presenting a full-day course on crop planning.

In Grande Prairie, there will a full day course on transition to organic livestock production and in La Crete and Lethbridge, the course will focus on transition to organic crop production.

“By offering different workshops across the province, we can customize sessions to focus on issues of local interest and concern,” says Lipton. “We also think it’s important to keep workshop costs down to ensure all producers interested and involved in organic production can attend.”

Workshops are sponsored by Going Organic, Canadian Organic Growers, Government of Alberta and Growing Forward and will be held: November 17-18 in Leduc; November 30 – December 1 in Grande Prairie; December 3 – 4 in La Crete, and; February 25-26 in Lethbridge.

The cost of the workshop is $75 for both days or $50 for just the course component (crop planning and transition courses) and $35 for the day of organic workshops. One-day registration and student pricing is available. For more information, or to register contact Becky Lipton at: 780-271-1116, email: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
