Workshop Description:

Designed as a comprehensive overview of human food labelling under the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), this workshop explores the Federal Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act, the Code for Federal Regulations (Title 21), the Fair Packaging and Labelling Act and other valuable resource guides as they relate to food labelling. Through presentations and workshop exercises, this workshop builds your knowledge and confidence to navigate the U.S. food labelling landscape and address food labelling requirements.

This training course will not cover pet food, infant labelling, dietary supplements, restaurant foods or alcoholic beverages.

Workshop Benefits:

At the end of the workshop, you will be able to:

  • Identify and define the package, the label and their features (principal display panel, information panel)
  • Review requirements related to common name, net contents, ingredient list, nutrition facts, domicile statement, country of origin, etc.)
  • Discuss technical features related to nutrition labelling, nutrient content claims and health claims
  • Discuss nutrition labelling under the former and new federal regulations
  • Discuss ingredient labelling, allergen labelling, nomenclature, incidental additives and processing aids
  • Identify proper use of descriptive terms (e.g. fresh, natural, organic)
  • Identify applicable regulations and their role in food labelling
  • Better appreciate helpful food labelling resources
