Although many Albertans are still on edge about Bill 6, which takes effect on December 1, there’s some good news for those who are going to have to upgrade their equipment or train new staff under the new regulations.

The Alberta government recently announced $6 million in funding to be used towards costs farmers and ranchers might incur due to meeting the new regulations.

To qualify, you must have a Workers Compensation Board (WCB) account, and either farm or have a ranch with waged, non-family workers that produces at least $10,000 worth in farm commodities annually. Each fiscal year in the program, you can expense a maximum of $5,000 for up to $10,000 over the three years.

If you’re eligible, you can receive up to 50 per cent cost-share of the product or training covered. The list of items and courses covered can be found by clicking here.

Applications for the three-year program are already open, and expenses can be back dated to January 1, 2018.
